Therapy for Black Men

A space to be heard without having to explain yourself.

You don't have to carry it all alone. You show up for everyone. Your family. Your job. Your friends. You've been taught to be strong, keep it moving, and handle it yourself.

But strength doesn't mean silence. Carrying everything alone gets heavy. Sometimes it shows up as anger, exhaustion, or just feeling numb.

Therapy is a place to set some of that weight down. No judgment. No lectures. Just a real conversation with a therapist who gets it.

What brings men in

Men come to us for all kinds of reasons. You might be dealing with:

  • Stress and burnout. Work, money, and responsibilities that never let up.

  • Anger and frustration. A short fuse that's starting to cost you.

  • Fatherhood. Being the dad you want to be, or the dad you never had.

  • Relationships. Communication, trust, conflict, or a breakup.

  • Career pressure. Code-switching, being the only one in the room, and proving yourself every day.

  • Grief and loss. A loved one, a relationship, or a version of your life.

  • Racial stress. The weight of navigating racism, bias, and being stereotyped.

  • Feeling stuck. Low energy, low motivation, or a sense that something is off.

You don't need a crisis to start. If something feels heavy, that's reason enough.

What to expect

Your first session is a conversation, not an interrogation. Here's how it works:

  1. Book online or call. Pick a time that works for you. Evening appointments are available.

  2. Talk it through. You share what's going on, at your own pace. You decide what to talk about.

  3. Build a plan together. Your therapist works with you on goals that matter to you. You're part of every step.

There's no couch you have to lie on and no right way to do therapy. Many men say the hardest part was making the first call.

Prefer to talk first? Call (847) 232-6353. In person in Evanston and Skokie, or telehealth anywhere in Illinois. In-network with most major insurance, with reduced fee options available.
